Railways run first Double Stack Container Trains in Electrified Sections

The Indian Railways is on a spree of creating new records and touching setting up new benchmarks. In one such initiative, Indian Railways set up a world record by becoming the first-ever to run Double Stack Container Trains in high-rise Over Head Equipment (OHE) electrified sections having a contact wire height of about 7.57 meter.

In a press release shared by the Indian Railways, the ministry mentioned that with the testing it looks forward to implementing innovation, speed, and customization in freight operations. The operations commenced on 10th June 2020 from the Palanpur and Botad stations of Gujarat.
The press release further mentioned about the possible influence of the operations on the Green India initiative.

Apart from the official press release from the ministry, the Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal took to his official social media handle to announce the achieved feat. He tweeted, “Railways creates a new world benchmark by successfully running first Double Stack Container Train in high rise Over Head Equipment (OHE) electrified sections. Govt under PM @NarendraModi JI propels innovation, speed & customization in freight operations.”

The press release also talked about the lockdown achievements of the Indian Railways & its freight operations. The railways managed to transport 178.68 million tonnes of commodities from 1st April 2020 to 10th June 2020 through its uninterrupted 24×7 freight services.

The authorities look forward to covering up the losses incurred during the lockdown period while surpassing the profits recorded in yesteryear through the running of Double stack container trains.
