Railway Ministry to ease procurement norms; Adopts Single-Window System For Vendor Approvals

The Railways Ministry in a bid to ease making doing business easier for local vendors across the nation undertook a major initiative of easing procurement norms. As per the newly created norms, the railway ministry is now focusing on the adoption of a single-window system for vendor approvals.
In compliance with the newly established procurement norms, any vendor that has been already approved by any Vendor Approving agency will be now considered as approved by all the other railway units set up all over the country. This shall apply to the particular items that have been approved by any vendor agency.

Previously, vendors were required to go to multiple approvals at different units as a vendor-approved by an Approving Agency in one unit was not automatically approved at other units of the railway. Thus, making business difficult.

The adoption of new norms was announced by the Ministry of Railways through their official Twitter handle. The authorities tweeted, “Ministry of Railways takes an important decision to ease procurement norms and improve ease of doing business.”

The decision has been undertaken, keeping in mind the “Make in India” initiative by reducing efforts and time consumption for vendors. Moreover, the vendors will have more a wider availability of options to choose from, making the process transparent.
