Indian Railways to Generate 8 Lakh Jobs for Migrants

The Ministry of Railways announced that it would be generating around 8-lakh man-day jobs for migrant workers and others in the next 125 days till October 31. The job opportunity will be provided to people for upcoming infrastructural projects under the ministry of railways worth ₹1800 crores.

The jobs are being provided under the recently launched Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan of the Indian government which is being implemented in about 116 districts spreading across 6 states including the likes of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, and Jharkhand.


“This Abhiyan of 125 days, will work in mission mode, will involve focused implementation of various categories of works/activities in 116 districts, each with a large concentration of returnee migrant workers in 6 states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Around 160 infrastructure works have been identified which are to be expedited,” an official statement said.

“Zonal Railways have also been instructed to get a sanction of proposed works under MGNREGS. Zonal railways would be monitoring the works on a daily basis and submit a report to ministry every Friday till the end of Oct 2020,” it further said.

The Minister of Railways of India, Piyush Goel, took to his official social media handle to announce the opportunity. He tweeted, “Fulfilling our duty to the nation, Railways to generate 8 lakh man-days of employment under PM @NarendraModi ji’s Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan in infrastructure projects worth ₹1800 crore.”



The campaign has been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the aim of providing employment and livelihood to various migrants during the times current pandemic.
