The national transporter, Indian Railways recently announced that it had produced about 1.91 Lakh PPE kits, 7.33 Lakh masks as well as 66.4 kilos of sanitizer till June 24, 2020. The items have been prepared for the railways, RPF, and medical staff operational at various stations and railway offices across the nation.
“Indian Railways, in coordination with other Ministries and state governments, is totally geared up to meet the challenge of providing protection to its front line medical workers and other operational staff persons, from the COVID-19 pandemic. It is using all its resources in a coordinated manner to create/upgrade its facilities,” an official statement from the railway ministry stated.
The collection of raw materials and preparation of kits stood as a challenge that has been efficiently covered up by the railways, an official was quoted to be saying. He further specified that the railways have set up a target of preparing 1.5 lakh PPE kits for June and July month each, which shall be revised upwards in the coming times.
“Northern Railway was nominated for centralized procurement of raw material required for the manufacture of PPE coveralls, a critical component with respect to quality. All in-house manufactured products satisfy all applicable quality standards,” he said.
The news was also shared on the official Twitter handle of the Ministry of Railways. The tweet read, “Indian Railways produce 1.91 lakh PPE gowns, 66.4 km sanitizer, and 7.33 lakh masks till 24/06/2020 PPE coverall target for the month of June and July are fixed as 1.5 lakhs each.”
