As the government announces guidelines for Unlock 4.0, the Indian Railway gears up for introducing as many as 100 more trains. The Ministry of Railways on Tuesday announced that it is planning to introduce more trains for the passengers to help them reach their homes during the present times of the pandemic.
“More special trains are being planned. State governments are being consulted,” a railway spokesperson said.
As a part of the recently announced Unlock 4.0 guidelines, which will begin from September 30, the government has provided relaxations on various things including the resumption of metro and local train services in a ‘calibrated’ manner. While the reports of introducing more trains have already surfaced in the medic, an official announcement will be made soon.
The Indian Railways is presently running 115 pairs of special trains across the nation ever since the announcement of lockdown. Moreover, last month the officials announced a suspension of all train services for an indefinite period which was earlier suspended till August 12.
The 100 trains will be in addition to the current running of 230 special trains. Talking about the Shramik Special trains, Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav said “The last Shramik Special train ran on July 9 and with that, we presume that we have met the demand of the states regarding these trains. However, if there is more such demand, we will run these services again.”
