Indian Railways bring Banaras Back on Map after 64 years

With constant developments in progress, the Indian Railways has decided to officially bring Banaras back on the railways map after a long gap of 64 years. As per the official reports, the Manduadih Railway Station will be renamed as the Banaras Railway station. The Northern Railways has finally received approval from Indian Railways for changing the station names as well as the codes from MUV to BSBS.


Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal informed on Twitter, his message written in Hindi said, “Manduadih station of Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of PM Narendra Modi, will now be known by the popular and famous name Banaras all over the country. The name of this station was changed to Banaras by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, based on the NOC of the Central Government.”

Divisional railway manager of NER (Varanasi) Vijay Kumar Panjiyar told the media on Saturday, “NER received the approval letter of Indian Railway Conference Association on Friday night. After getting the letter we have started replacing the old name Manduadih with Banaras n name board, retro-reflective boards, signages, notice, glow sign, and electric lighting boards in and around the station.”


Previously, the names of two other Railways stations of Uttar Pradesh were changed with Mughalsarai and Allahabad railway stations being renamed as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction and Prayagraj Junction respectively.
